Commitment Day and January Goals
A few weeks ago I came across a giveaway from the Start Clean 2013 sponsor, Commitment Day. I was intrigued by the concept of people in 30 cities committing to get healthier and run/walk a 5k on New Year’s Day. This is one of those things that I would like to do but never actually get around to. I entered the giveaway and thought to myself, “If I win, I’m meant to be there” and then I’ll ask my sister to join me.
I was thrilled when I got the email from Katie saying I was one of the winners. Now I had to do the race. I was not going to pass up this gift. It was the extra push I needed to get moving in 2013. I also learned a valuable lesson, I can do these awesome events. I shouldn’t find reasons to talk myself out of them. If I ask my loved ones, I’m sure they’d join me or cheer me on. I also have to get comfortable with doing these types of events on my own.
It was very cold this morning but my sister and I woke up early and headed over to Pier 84 for the race. We got there just in time for the warm-up exercises. It really helped to stretch out since we hadn’t trained for this 5k. Before we knew it we were off. It was exciting to be running again.
We ran and walked the 5k. My sister is one of the funniest people I know. She always makes any event an absolutely hilarious one. We had a blast! Somewhere along the race I found my old running stride and now I’ve caught the running bug again. By the end of the race my sister was so pumped, she was encouraging me to “move faster!” LOL!
We had a great time and will definitely be doing the Commitment Day race again next year!
I feel really accomplished today and happy I started this year on the right foot working towards my January Goals.
- Be more active
- Attend all 5 Weight Watcher meetings this month
- Eat fruit or vegetable with each meal
Happy New Year!

That’s so awesome!! I always did running/walking events with a friend. I haven’t worked up the courage to do them by myself yet, even though so many people do.
Great way to start the year!
